According to a YouGov public opinion poll that surveyed 7,150 respondents from January 28-February 1, 2017, 57% of Americans agreed that North Korea is an enemy of the US. There was a notable gap after that with Iran coming in second at 41%, and Syria at 32%.Russia, the subject of a lot of popular press, especially as it concerns Donald Trump and his cabinet's ties, associations, and/or communications with the country, came in sixth at 22%.Iraq and Afghanistan came in 4th and 5th at 29% and 23%, respectively, despite actually being US allies in the region.One theme among the twelve nations listed is that all are mired in a relatively high degree of geopolitical conflict of some form. Of the twelve that have tradable sovereign debt – Russia, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia – their 10-year yields are 8.2%, 7.6%, and ~4.2%, in comparison to a US 10-year of 2.4%-2.5%.
